"A combination of the two vineyards that Ventisquero has in Huasco, Loncomilla and Nicolasa, both strongly influenced by the presence of the sea breezes, the "camanchaca" fog that spreads out into the valley, providing humidity in a desert landscape. This has the minerality of the place, the way in which the acidity moves through the palate, accompanied by ripe white fruits and earthy, mineral tones that give it a touch of complexity. A chardonnay strongly influenced by its place."

"The whites from the Huasco Valley exude personality. The very special terroir at the start of the Atacama Desert (the driest in the world) and very close to the sea (about 14 kilometers), and on the bed of the Huasco River, produces wines with the same charged character. Take this chardonnay, for example. A blend of two vineyards, one with alluvial soils and the other with saline soils as white as chalk. The grapes were fermented in stainless steel tanks, and the wine was aged in a 2,000-liter foudre and two 1,000-liter concrete eggs. The result is a wine that may be eccentric, but it's also highly drinkable. Unlike many of the so-called "natural" wines, where the clarity of their appearance, aromas, or flavors is less important than their eccentricity factor--the intellectual pleasure of trying something different--in this case, it has all that as well as flavors of ripe white fruits in a juicy wine that's also delicious to drink."

"This is a 100% chardonnay from two vineyards--two-thirds from Longomilla and one-third from Nicolasa. Longomilla is a vineyard beside the Huasco River, planted in 2007 on stone and lime soils 24 kilometers from the sea. Nicolasa is 18 kilometers from the Pacific and has white, saline soil. It was planted in 2009 in a place that has "a much more desert-like, much more arid vision than Longomilla," says winemaker Felipe Tosso. In the raw, harsh context of Copiapó, Longomilla gives rise to riper, more expansive and enveloping wines, while Nicolasa offers a vertical side that's firm and austere. Here the blend is stunning. Pure ripe fruit with a bolt of acidity in the midst. A wine to cellar for a decade."

"Chardonnay is the base of Ventisquero's best Huasco whites. Of the 13 hectares the winery has planted in the Atacama, the world's driest desert, 3 are Chardonnay, and what the winery obtains there is a wine with tremendous structure. The zone's soils are saline and that's transmitted to the flavors of the wine, which are fruity and spicy, but they also have that salty side, salty like the sea. And it's creamy, too, with friendly textures as well as lots of acidity, lots of vigor. A unique wine."

"Ventisquero has 2 vineyards in Huasco in the northern extreme of Chilean wine regions. Longomilla is the older of the two and was planted on alluvial soils flanking the Huasco River in 2007. This chardonnay was grown there and offers pure minerality, tense tannins, and firm-yet-fine acidity with a fine layer of spices and ripe white fruit everywhere you turn, having a little fiesta. Tara White 1 continues to be one of the best whites in Chile."

Very biting and salivating palate, medium weight with a nicely austere and steely texture, still youthful and restrained fruit some buttery/lees notes and nicely mouthwatering and layered with long persistency and fine potential for further cellaring."
