Classification: Barbaresco DOCG

Grapes: Nebbiolo 100%

Origin & Soil: vineyards in the areas of Barbaresco, Treiso and Neive. Origins go back to the Tortonian - Messinian era. Rich in calcareous clay and in magnesium, manganese and zinc. This soil, made of very small particles which tend to form layers, is highly erosive (Siltuos Marl).

Taste: Garnet colour with good intensity. On the nose, deep and complex with hints of liquorice. On the palate, full and velvety with a long finish. Due to its structure and characteristics, it is a perfect match for meat dishes and cheeses. Ideal serving temperature 17°C

Climate Vintage: The Spring was characterized by good precipitations and ideal temperatures, followed by a warm summer but without extreme temperatures and there wasn't drought, an exceptional Semptember, for the temperature range ( warm during the day, cold during the night), have favoured a very good maturation of the grapes. The harvest 2004 has a good quality and a good production in quantity ( controlled by many prunnings), not like 2003. The level of aromatic substances was good to, and at the end we have an ideal acidity.

Vinification: The selected grapes were destemmed and pressed. Maceration lasted 12 days at a maximum temperature of 30 °C. Malolactic fermentation was carried out before the end of winter. Ageing lasted 12 months in 50 Hl. oak barrels, 5 Hl. French oak tonneaux and a small quantity in second time used Barriques. Further 10 months of bottle ageing followed in the Prunotto cellars before shipping.

yr. 2012 Doctorwine:

89 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Prunotto Barbaresco DOCG, Piedmont, Italy" from the vintage 2012 on 06.07.2016 with 89 of 100 points.

"Made from Nebbiolo grapes that macerate for 15 days and age for around a year in oak barrels. The wine has a medium, ruby-garnet color and a bouquet with nicely expressed scents of red rose and blueberry. The mouthfeel is not that rich with tannins that are a tad green but not biting while the finish plays on the acidity. In recent years, this wine appears to have obtained spontaneity and vitality, perhaps due to changes in extractions and wood. I would drink it now or certainly over the next 5-10 years."
