"This is a vintage I will never stop praising. The wine is complete, typical, but at the same time fruity and communicative. The ruby-garnet color is intense and vital while the aroma is outrageous. There is violet, white pepper, wild fennel, mint, milk cream, gingerbread, sweet licorice and Cappellano Barolo Chinato. Incredible. I spent half the morning sniffing it because I could not believe my nose. The mouthfeel is fresh, fruity and dynamic with tannins that can extend without drying and in the end there is a change in pace with a finish that is almost sweet from the fruit. This has the dynamism of the 2004 together with the mint of the 2006. The persistence is sweet, broad, stratified, with scents that continue to expand in the mouth. This will transmit emotions for many years to come. Being quite -€˜embroidered-€™, this wine is not exactly spontaneous (nor are the others) but even the most fanatical fan of the -€˜old style-€™ will love it. A Barolo on the same level of the best 1999 tasted, like Brunate-Le Coste Rinaldi, Margherita Massolino, Montefortino Conterno and the two unforgettable Ginestra Barolo from Conterno Fantino and Domenico Clerico."

"Initially, this was a little closed on a reductive note of damp earth before the bouquet opened on scents of glutamate and raspberry and fresh mushroom. The mouthfeel is very fresh, of an unreal youth, and with breathing it expands significantly on a note of black truffle. The tannins are less massive than in the previous wine and there is a tad more freshness than with the 2006. This also still needs a few years, although less than the 2006. If you can-€™t wait, pair it with some succulent meat."

"As could be expected the use of new wood added an intensity to the color of this type of wine. At the same time, the tonality of the color perfectly reflects the territory and the grape: an intense ruby-garnet with just a slight edge. The bouquet is of violet, peppermint and a touch of gingerbread. The first flavor impact is that of fruit before the great tannins that distinguish 2006 take over. The finish is profound, taut from the tannins, while a lively acidity sits below the surface. It needs a few more years to come of age, after which it will be good for decades. The wood is hardly noticeable and here, as with the other three vintages, the structural characteristics are quite remarkable."

"The fruit here is riper, not evolved, and telling of the year. The aroma has camphor, amaretto, hazelnut ice cream and a touch of iron. The mouthfeel is broad and at the same time very clenched, neither soft nor too dry, only more gentle thanks to the tannins. The flavor is more -€˜American-€™ with wood at the center of the mouth making it a bit annoying and distracting for a Barolo. The finish is better and closes quite robustly. Purists may find my rating a bit generous and the wine-€™s big fans will think I-€™m crazy. When it came out it was heralded by American critics who gave it a rating worthy of a good Petrus."
