"This estate has by now become one of the best in the area. Riccardo Campinoti has clear ideas and carries them out with attention and pragmatism. He is rare producer who is in love with wine and not just Brunello. His only ?defect? is that sometimes he leans towards as more Chianti-like style. Fortunately, he can work this out making his wonderful Chianti Collline Senesi and since he is young he is to be forgiven. This year his Brunello wines are excellent and I have singled out Fornace because if one has a vineyard at over 500m above sea level and then buys one on the southeast side of the town at some 400m, there has to be a reason. This has a classic yet not very bright ruby color. The bouquet is broad and plays on strong floral notes, as well as those of ripe fruit, with the scent of violet giving way to notes of American tobacco and Mediterranean shrubs like myrtle. The mouthfeel is bold, juicy, with nice, mature tannins woven into a velvety texture which becomes quite harmonic. The finish is very persistent with a return of floral and fruity notes."

"This winery that has made leaps and bounds over the past few years. Its style is consolidated and this year's selection of Brunello is truly excellent. Among the 2008 wines we preferred their Fornace which comes from the municipality of Castelnuovo dell'Abate. However, even the standard vintage version and the Vecchie Vigne, from the estate's oldest vineyard, were also quite interesting. Fornace was a step above starting with its color, a very dark and intense ruby. The aroma is very clear, intense and varied with strong scents of fruit, cherry and blackberry and a refreshing touch of thyme. The flavor balance is excellent with an intense and bold attack supported by young tannins that do not inhibit the progression. The texture and intensity of the mouthfeel is excellent while the acidic streak is very contained. The finish has great intensity and persistence, extremely consistent with an evident presence of Marasca and sour cherries."
