yr. 2009 Doctorwine:

98 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 2009 on 27.08.2014 with 98 of 100 points.

"This was the best of all, an immense Mediterranean red, full-bodied, very elegant and unexpectedly agile. It has a luminous, ruby-garnet color and the attack of the aroma is spectacular. There are spicy notes of cardamom and vanilla followed by smoked accents and, at the end, scents of cassis and wild strawberry. The mouthfeel is composed, consistent, taut, elegant and almost aristocratic with tannins of infinite sweetness and a very long persistence."

yr. 2005 Doctorwine:

96 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 2005 on 27.08.2014 with 96 of 100 points.

"This is the absolute masterpiece. An extremely fine Mediterranean wine, with the ?lan of the 2002 and the body of the 1998. It comes from a surprising vintage which, initially, didn?t promise such positive results. It has an intense garnet colour with ruby highlights. Its scents are complex and varied, with very evident spicy notes alongside hints of fraises des bois, blackcurrants, sour cherries and Virginia tobacco. There is massive, rich yet elegant fruit on the palate, with dense but not aggressive tannins and splendidly brackish acidity. The finish is elegant and long, with an attractive, warming aftertaste."

yr. 2007 Doctorwine:

95 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 2007 on 27.08.2014 with 95 of 100 points.

"Splendid: even if it comes from a pretty hot year, it succeeds in expressing itself at a similar level to the very best vintages. It has an intense garnet colour with ruby reflections. The nose is nuanced and complex, with clear-cut spicy notes and hints of blackcurrants, sour cherries and Virginia tobacco. There are also some citrus-like hints (of blood oranges). The fruit on the palate is forthright and with excellent body, firm but also harmonious, with just a hint of tannin and a deliciously soft, glycerine-rich component. It has a long, well-balanced finish, with a warming and very attractive aftertaste."

yr. 2004 Doctorwine:

92 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 2004 on 27.08.2014 with 92 of 100 points.

"Well-balanced and complex, this wine comes from a very positive, indeed almost classic vintage. It has a deep garnet colour with evident ruby highlights. Its perfumes are broad yet intense, with the alcohol barely perceptible. There are spicy and smoky notes, as well as hints of blackcurrants, yellow peaches, sour cherries and cocoa, thus creating a really very interesting spectrum of sensations on the nose. The flavour is frank and still youthful, with a few rough acidulous/tannic edges. It has excellent, still slightly coarse fruit, but this unfolds on the middle palate to yield a long, substantial finish which gives hope for good potential for evolution in the bottle."

yr. 2006 Doctorwine:

90 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 2006 on 27.08.2014 with 90 of 100 points.

"To some extent, this pays the price for coming after the 2005: it is the result of a rather hot ? and therefore less complex and nuanced - year than the previous wine. Its colour is an intense, moderately concentrated garnet. Its nose is dominated by a slightly penetrating ethereal, alcoholic note, alongside fruity hints of sour cherries, blackcurrants and raspberries. It is less spicy than in other vintages. The flavour is deep and full-bodied, fairly soft and rich in glycerine. The finish is warming and shows good persistence."

yr. 2008 Doctorwine:

89 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 2008 on 27.08.2014 with 89 of 100 points.

"An opulent version: a Faro Palari that might even be considered atypical thanks to its great structure and concentration. It has a deep, concentrated garnet colour, with ruby highlights. A rich, alcoholic and ethereal nose, with notes of sour cherries in brandy, wild strawberry jam and hints of cocoa in the background. There is also a slight suggestion of overripe tones that impair its elegance somewhat. A massive, rich, alcoholic and warming flavour, with softness from its abundant glycerine. The finish is warming but slightly dilute.."

yr. 2003 Doctorwine:

85 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 2003 on 27.08.2014 with 85 of 100 points.

"A version that is slightly out of balance, the result of a very hot, dry year, which has led to an excess of tannins as well as other components that have speeded up the wine?s evolution. The colour is an intense, concentrated garnet; its bouquet is ethereal and alcoholic, with notes of bitter cherries in brandy, blackcurrants and peaches in syrup. The flavour is full but a bit coarse, thanks to faintly green tannins that are due to the scarce polyphenolic ripening and slight dehydration of the grapes. There is a dilution of the fruit by the alcohol on the finish, with an evident warm and slightly bitterish aftertaste."

yr. 1998 Doctorwine:

95 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 1998 on 26.08.2014 with 95 of 100 points.

"A historic version: the first outstanding Faro Palari, the result of a better-balanced year. The colour is a brilliant and intense garnet. The bouquet displays extraordinary complexity, with the classic smoky and spicy notes and hints of blackcurrants, leather and tobacco in the background. The attack on the palate is extremely elegant, with the tannic and acid components seemingly hypnotized by a sensual, mouth-filling glyceric softness that makes the taste well-balanced and almost aristocratic. A great Mediterranean wine, which held its own in a comparative tasting with the majestic Hermitage of Jean-Louis Chave from the same vintage. The warm finish is of excellent length."

yr. 2002 Doctorwine:

94 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 2002 on 26.08.2014 with 94 of 100 points.

"This is very fine indeed, even if slightly lean in style. Besides, it comes from a cool year, even though it wasn?t as cold as elsewhere in Italy. This is the other face of Faro Palari ? all freshness and elegance ? and perhaps the only vintage that could prove those people right who, often incorrectly, liken it to a Burgundy. Its garnet hue is lively and brilliant, but only of medium depth. It has a complex nose, with notes of blood oranges, redcurrants, fraises des bois and spices and a gutsy flavour, controlled by a very fresh and appealing acidity that runs right through the taste, making the wine very easy to drink. Its body is not enormous, but it is supple, elegant and aristocratic. The finish is long and fine."

yr. 2001 Doctorwine:

92 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 2001 on 26.08.2014 with 92 of 100 points.

"A fine version, deriving from a well-balanced year that has given us a typical and long-lived example of Faro Palari. Its garnet colour is intense and lively, with some ruby highlights. The nose is complex, with smoky and fruity elements present. It opens up with scents of blackcurrants and blackberries, followed immediately by more spicy notes and hints of Virginia tobacco. The flavour is positive and racy, with the tannic and acid components slightly predominating over the alcohol and glycerine: a profile that suggests excellent ageing potential. It finishes long and austere."

yr. 1996 Doctorwine:

91 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 1996 on 26.08.2014 with 91 of 100 points.

"When it was released it seemed like a small miracle. The comparison that immediately sprang to mind was with certain great Ch?teauneuf-du-Papes, the famous reds from near Avignon. Tasting it today, it is just starting to crack up a little, but this certainly doesn?t invalidate its finer qualities. Its colour is a medium-deep garnet, with an orangey rim. Its scents are broad and complex, with smoky notes in the foreground that lead into nuances of tobacco (with very slight animal-like tones) and then of liquorice and glutamate. The flavour is full-bodied and warming, but well sustained by brackish acidity. The finish is long but also with a faint bitterness."

yr. 2000 Doctorwine:

88 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 2000 on 26.08.2014 with 88 of 100 points.

"This is a rather hot and decidedly Mediterranean year and a version of Faro Palari that is very appealing, but lacks great complexity. Now, too, it is just starting to show signs of early ageing. The colour is a deep garnet. The nose is dominated by slightly alcoholic notes, which then give way to those of cling peaches, fresh almonds, caramel and blackcurrants. There are some animal-like and even brettanomyces hints which limit its elegance. The softness of the glycerine is dominant on the palate, making everything taste rounded and uniform. The finish is warming and alcoholic."

yr. 1999 Doctorwine:

86 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 1999 on 26.08.2014 with 86 of 100 points.

"A more normal version, perhaps: it is very well made but lacks the light and shade and complexity of the preceding version. The garnet colour is somewhat deeper, with highlights that are starting to veer towards ruby. The nose is fairly broad, but the fruity tones ? of raspberries and blackcurrants ? are more well-defined, with fewer spicy and smoky hints, thus limiting its complexity. The flavour is positive and even slightly tannic, with good full-bodied fruit well sustained by the acidity. However, the overall taste profile offers less variety, even if it is of excellent length. It is less well-balanced than the ?98, and is especially a little more coarse."

yr. 1997 Doctorwine:

85 of 100 Points.

"Doctorwine" has rated the wine "Palari Faro, Sicily, Italy" from the vintage 1997 on 26.08.2014 with 85 of 100 points.

"A rather hot year and a not particularly successful version of the wine, even though the level of quality remains more than adequate. The colour is a fairly deep garnet with orangey reflections. It isn?t entirely clean on the nose: one is aware of fairly evident animal-like and brettanomyces hints, which don?t completely cover up the smoky and spicy notes, but do partly impair their elegance. It is better on the palate, with faint hints of slightly rustic tannins against a general background of excellent fruit. The finish is persistent, with a faintly bitter aftertaste."
