FIHL is the ancient name of VILLA, a hamlet located North of Egna. Here is where the winery is located.The Merlot vineyard is in Gries. Before bottling, the Merlot is usually blended with part of Iugum (Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon) In exceptional vintages like 2016, Fihl is bottled by itself and not blended at all. Therefore in these vintages the quantity of Fihl is smaller.

HARVEST TIME: mid September
VINIFICATION: the grapes are destemmed and fermented in stainsteel open vats for 10 days approximately with punch downs twice a day. The wine is then racked in stainsteel vats where the malolactic fermentation occurs. When malolactic is over the wine is aged in barriques 20% new and 80% of 3-5th run. After 12 months the wine is bottled and released after 14 months.

Brilliant straw-yellow colour. Very perfumed, rich, slightly smoky, uplifted varietal aroma paired with elegant oak spice. Clean, grapey, full-bodied flavour, quite soft and creamy, delicate and with a fresh finish. Remarkably long and spicy on the palate.
Luscious purple-ruby with a delicate aroma of undergrowth and spices, a hint of wild cherry; an elegant and full-bodied wine with ripe, juicy tannins and length. With game, well-seasoned roast red meats and matured cheeses.
