yr. 2015 Jeannie Cho Lee:

97 of 100 Points.

"Jeannie Cho Lee" has rated the wine "Vieux Chateau Certan, Pomerol, France" from the vintage 2015 on 01.05.2016 with 97 of 100 points.

"An attractive Pomerol with plush, velvety tannins and lovely sweet black fruit and spices. The fruit is fresh, lively and the finish is very long. The alcohol is 14.6% which is the highest alcohol ever made. The blend is 80% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc with 1% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vines are on average around 50 years old."

yr. 2012 Jeannie Cho Lee:

94 of 100 Points.

"Jeannie Cho Lee" has rated the wine "Vieux Chateau Certan, Pomerol, France" from the vintage 2012 on 01.05.2016 with 94 of 100 points.

"A beautiful, ripe, generous VCC with ripe, velvety tannins and layers of blackberries, cherries and sweet spices. This wine has more depth and intensity than I expected with the structure built for aging. Best after 2019."

yr. 1949 Jeannie Cho Lee:

90 of 100 Points.

"Jeannie Cho Lee" has rated the wine "Vieux Chateau Certan, Pomerol, France" from the vintage 1949 on 01.08.2015 with 90 of 100 points.

"Lean, angular and light bodied, this vintage of VCC is not one of its riper, more generous vintages from the 1940s. In its original cork, the wine has become a silky, charming, ephemeral Bordeaux with a modest finish. Drink quickly because it fades in the glass after 45 minutes."

yr. 2014 Jeannie Cho Lee:

94 of 100 Points.

"Jeannie Cho Lee" has rated the wine "Vieux Chateau Certan, Pomerol, France" from the vintage 2014 on 01.03.2015 with 94 of 100 points.

"Luscious and ripe with ripe plum, spices and cherry. Balanced, lively with fresh juicy red and black berries. The yield in this vintage was good at 39 hl/ha and the late harvest through October 8 allowed the Cabernet Franc to shine. According to owner Alexandre Thienpont, the 2014 wine was 'saved' by the Cabernet Franc, which was beautiful in this vintage. There is 80% Merlot and 19% Cabernet Franc in this vintage."

yr. 2013 Jeannie Cho Lee:

88 of 100 Points.

"Jeannie Cho Lee" has rated the wine "Vieux Chateau Certan, Pomerol, France" from the vintage 2013 on 01.04.2014 with 88 of 100 points.

"Ripe plums and cherry nose with with ripe mixed dark berries on the palate. The wine is silky, supple and elegant but without the usual depth found in VCC. Finish is fairly short. Less than 1,000 cases were made this year and the average is 4,000 cases. The decision to even bottle the grand vin was made after much reflection - 1991 and 2003 were 2 vintages where they seriously debated about making any wine at all. This is one of the weakest offerings from VCC that I can remember over the past 15 years. The wine was made to last about 15 years according to Alexander Thienpont. 92% Merlot and 8% Cabernet Franc. Tasted in: Bordeaux, France. Maturity: Young."

yr. 1990 Jeannie Cho Lee:

95 of 100 Points.

"Jeannie Cho Lee" has rated the wine "Vieux Chateau Certan, Pomerol, France" from the vintage 1990 on 10.07.2013 with 95 of 100 points.

"What a gorgeous, still youthful Pomerol! It was a joy to drink this wine which was evolving in the glass over 2 hours. Flavours are sweet, ripe and the texture supple and velvety. Hint of spices and dried Chinese dates in the finish which is very long. A wine just hitting its peak and should remain there for at least 10-15 more years. Tasted in: Seoul, Korea. Maturity: Drink."

yr. 2011 Jeannie Cho Lee:

96 of 100 Points.

"Jeannie Cho Lee" has rated the wine "Vieux Chateau Certan, Pomerol, France" from the vintage 2011 on 01.04.2012 with 96 of 100 points.

"This is a fleshy, generous, full bodied Pomerol with a detailed fruit profile and great depth. Flavours range from violets, plums, black berries with hints of mocha and cedar. The fruit was obviously perfectly ripe with polished, generous tannins and a very long finish. The quantity produced this year is the same as in 2010 with 29% of Cabernet Franc used in the blend. A phenomenal wine and my top wine from Pomerol. Tasted in: Bordeaux, France. Maturity: Young."
