The "Sigis Mundus" Lagrein is named after Archduke Sigismund and is grown in the classic Lagrein area in nearby Gries, a suburb in the Bolzano valley basin. Lagrein, one of South Tyrol's most ancient fine reds, has attained the status of a royal classic.
Description: The colour is impressively deep, almost black tinged with violet; open on the nose with concentrated aromas of violets, blackberries and black cherries, all nicely meshed with savoury flavours, coffee and dark chocolate. A powerful and supple wine with assertive, youthful tannins and superb length.
Food Choices: The wine's formidable structure makes it an excellent match for pan-seared rib eye steak, roast beef, game, balsamic roast pork, mature cheeses.

Grape Variety: 100% Lagrein 50 year-old pergola-trained vines.
Sites: The vines are planted in deep, alluvial soils - gravel, eroded granite and porphyry - in the classic Lagrein area of Gries on the outskirts of Bolzano. The warm climate in the Bolzano valley basin is ideal for the heat-loving Lagrein vine.
Winemaking: Fermentation with the skins lasting 10 days, during which time the skins are constantly pushed down gently into the embryonic wine. The young wine is left with the skins for several days post fermentation, after which it is transferred into a mixture of new and used French oak barriques where malolactic fernemtation occurs. The wine is barrique-aged for a total of 16 months, after which it is lightly fined, bottled and matured for a further 12 months before release.
