Deion:
Only ten hectares of Moscato rosa exist in Alto Adige. The grapevine is highly demanding. Much manual labor is necessary in the vineyard. Its blossom is female and is not self-pollinating. This often leads to poor fruit set and extremely low yield. The tiny, partially seedless berries contain breathtaking concentrations of aromas reminiscent of dried rose petals, candied strawberries and oriental spices. During its long, courageous period of skin contact, USHAS develops a spicy outline of tannins which melds harmoniously with the aromas of rose hips, cinnamon and orange peel. Extra-sweet finish with invigorating acidity. USHAS: the rare one. The name USHAS is refers to the color of the wine. It comes Hinduism: USHAS, the goddess of the dawn. Producer: Kurtatsch Winery Vineyards on breathtakingly steep slopes 220-900m a.s.l. - such a large difference in altitude within one municipality is unique in Europe. The low elevations are among the warmest in Alto Adige and are perfect for important red wines. On the high-altitude sites above the main village of Kurtatsch, the white varieties find ideal conditions. The wide array of elevations and soil types dictates the philosophy of the province’s southernmost cooperative: to produce distinctive wines that reflect their growing site, their terroir, in the best way possible.
A young team, since 2019 led by the winery’s president, Andreas Kofler, has oriented the winery towards sustainable management. Thanks to the 190 small-structured family farms that cultivate 190 hectares of vineyards, the best grape material for each individual location can be selected. This and the precise vinification of the individual vineyard sites create distinctive and unmistakable wines which truly reflect their place of origin. The result: fresh, mineral white wines high locations and long-lasting red wines warm locations.

The Kurtatsch Winery is one of the most important winegrowing cooperatives in South Tyrol and is located in the small municipality of Kurtatsch in the heart of the Überetsch region. The history of the winery goes back to 1900, when a few local winegrowers joined forces to produce wine together. Today, the Kurtatsch Winery has around 200 members who cultivate over 20 different grape varieties on a total of around 190 hectares of vineyards. The winery relies on sustainable cultivation of the vineyards, which is supported by the use of modern technologies and careful manual work by the winegrowers. The result is wines of the highest quality that regularly win awards at national and international competitions. The Kurtatsch winery is particularly well known for its white wines, first and foremost the Sauvignon Blanc, the Chardonnay and the Gewürztraminer. But also the red wines of the winery, such as the Lagrein or the Vernatsch, convince with their intensity and their balanced structure. In addition to the high quality of its wines, the Kurtatsch Winery also stands out for its innovative strength. For example, it received an award for its "Cold Cellar" project, which significantly reduced the winery's energy consumption with the help of solar panels and geothermal energy. All in all, the Kurtatsch Winery is one of the most important addresses for wines South Tyrol and stands for a successful combination of tradition and modernity, manual work and technology, as well as quality and sustainability.
