Hussar biscuit stuffed with red jam.
Historical note: the Hussars were military members of a Hungarian light cavalry unit in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Ingredients: soft wheat flour, butter, 16% currant jam (sugar, 45% currant, glucose-fructose syrup, acidifier: citric acid, gelling agent: apple pectin, preservative: potassium sorbate), almonds, sugar, whole egg, baking powder, natural vanillin.
As a rule, our South Tyrolean Mini-Schüttelbrot is eaten between meals (during a so-called 'Jause' or 'Brotzeit') or rather during a light afternoon meal (the South Tyrolean 'Marende'). It makes of course a perfect accompaniment to wine and beer.
